The Cobar High School Batyr Chapter held a sportsman’s dinner at the Cobar Bowling & Golf
Club last Thursday. Australian
Diamonds netball player Sharni Layton was a special guest along with Batyr CEO Sam Refshauge. The night, which raised $5,000 for local youth mental health
programs, was attended by 100 guests, most of whom were
netballers and included a
contingent of Hillston Swans
players. Emcee for the evening Ben Hewlett, who is a local
volunteer with Batyr, interviewed Sharni about her childhood, and how she came to play netball for Australia. The night included a quiz, a ‘Thank God You’re Here’ improvised skit with Sharni and an auction of various sporting items including a signed football that went for $1,000 and a NSW Swifts signed player’s dress for $750. Sharni and Sam also spoke at
local schools, to junior
netballers and Peak employees.
