Shooters celebrate the festive season breaking clays

Bright, sunny and slightly windy conditions greeted the field of 27 competitors for the Cobar Clay Target Club’s Christmas Novelty Shoot on Sunday.

Lining up alongside the locals were also shooters from Bourke, Brewarrina, Hermidale and Warren hoping to win the ham trophies and meat trays, and keen to experience the challenge of unusual events, and the club’s renowned hospitality.

In the first event, a 25 target Eye Opener, 14 competitors, ranging from AA Grade to C Grade, each shot a possible score of 25/25.

Max Ingleton, Kevin Hatch, Macka Codrington, Dallas Codrington, Kirk Grogan, Brad Kendrick, Bryan Manns, Alex-John Codrington, Matt Harland, Graeme Angove, Luke Scales, Robert Thompson, James Manns and Darcy Manns all recorded possibles.

The remainder of the program was a challenge for both experienced and junior shooters alike.

The results of the 25 Target Graded Handicap event were: AA Grade—Macka Codrington 24/25; A Grade—Max Ingleton 27/27; B Grade—James Manns 25/25; C Grade—Geoff Fennamore 25/25.

The novice award went to Steven Morten and the Encouragement Award winner was Rick Whittaker.

The 25 Target Crazy Points event proved to be very challenging and the winners were: AA Grade—Kevin Hatch 96/125; A Grade— Alex-John Codrington 102/125; B Grade—Jarrod Barraclough 97/125; C Grade—Graeme Angove 81/125.

Cole Barraclough won the Novice award and Aaron Wyllie collected the Encouragement Award.

Teams for the 10 Pair Deauville Doubles event were drawn out of a hat.

Four pairs shot a possible score, and after a shoot-off, Bryan Manns and Rick Whittaker with 18/18, finished as the winners over Aiden Barraclough and Dallas Codrington 17/18, with Victor Papierniak and Jason Mitchell third with 15/18.

Alex-John Codrington 147/150 was the Overall Highgun winner with Kevin Hatch the AA Grade winner (132/150) and Aiden Barraclough was the A Grade winner with 135/158.

The B Grade Highgun was Jarrod Barraclough (133/150), the C Grade title went to Graeme Angove (124/150); Macka Codrington, with 130/150, won the Ladies’ title, Darcy Manns won the Juniors’ highgun with 104/150 and Ross Morris was the Veterans winner with 125/150.
