The Cobar Women’s Golf 2016 calendar got underway last week in unseasonal heat wave conditions.
Although some golfers were reasonably acclimatised after playing the nine hole summer comp, a 12.30pm start did not suit playing conditions with many choosing to forgo a sleep-in on the weekend and hit the fairways in the early morning hours.
Fran Samios had a stop off back in Cobar on her trip around Australia and took out the first game of the year last Wednesday, a 9 hole stableford, on a countback from Geraldine Francisco after both finished on 18points.
Chrissy Gilligan and Anni Dunn had to be separated by a countback as well scoring 17 pts each.
Chrissy also picked up the nearest the pin on the 7th hole.
Saturday’s Par game attracted 16 players, the majority playing in the morning with the exception of first and second place, Pat Polack (-3) and Robynne Morton (-4) who, after tackling the heat, found a cool dip half way around the course was enough to get them through to the last hole!
It ended up being a four-way countback for second place with Barb Barklimore taking third followed by Joy Josephson and Geraldine Francisco all scoring -4 and Chrissy Gilligan on -5.
Barb had the nearest the pin on the 3rd and Geraldine grabbed the 15th.
Pat Polack hit the winners circle again on Sunday with 32 stableford points.
Angela Fryer and Jannine Wilkin (both with 31 points) were separated by a countback followed by Anni Dunn (29 points) on another countback.
The nearest the pins were won by Robynne Morton (8th) and Wan Sipasta (11th).
Today will be another Wednesday Par game and the same on Sunday while Saturday is a stableford round.
As the heat wave is set to continue this week most players will be looking at earlier tee times so arrange where possible so no-one misses out on a game. —T’d Off
