A convincing win by the Cobar Roosters First Graders and a shock loss by the previously unbeaten Gilgandra Panthers on Saturday has seen the Roosters steal the top of the table status in the Christie and Hood Castlereagh Rugby League competition.
Cobar had a big 42-12 win over Binnaway at Binnaway while the Panthers lost their match 24-16 to Coonamble in what was the Bears’ first win of the season.
Gilgandra’s loss has thrown the premiership race wide open and improved Cobar’s chances of gaining a home semi final and possibly the right to host the grand final.
Cobar, Gilgandra and Dundeoo are the competition front runners and the run to the semi finals these three clubs have in the remaining two rounds makes it more intriguing as to who will finish as minor premiers.
The Panthers have two competition points guaranteed as they have the bye in the final round and they will be wanting to regain their former good form this Saturday when they take on Dunedoo.
Cobar hosts Coonamble this Saturday and they play the Swans next week in Dunedoo and it will be this pivotal game that will possibly determine the final finishing order.
In Saturday’s win over Binnaway, Tristan Everett, Loma Atuau and Johnny Best touched down twice for the Roosters with Tim Hillam and Venni Taumalola also crossing for tries.
David Watson added Cobar’s extra points with five goals.
