Cobar Junior Rugby League Club has won the 2018 Country Rugby League (CRL) Western Region Grassroots Club of the Year award.

Club president Simone Knight was also named the CRL Western Region Volunteer of the Year with Mrs Knight collecting the two awards at a CRL awards dinner in Sydney on Saturday night.

It was a major coup for Cobar with the Western Region taking in all groups from Blackheath in the east to Broken Hill in the west.

The CRL was very impressed with the progress the Cobar club has made under Mrs Knight’s leadership.

In her five years as president, the club has gone from a group of 35 players (not playing in any league) to having 145 registrations this year, with five teams playing in the Group 11 Dubbo & District competition along with an Under 9s and Minis local competition.
