The Cobar Roosters have now been officially declared the minor premiers of the 2026 Castlereagh Rugby League season following their Round 14 win over Narromine on Saturday.
The Roosters cemented the minor premiership and hosting rights for the major semi final when they downed the Narromine Jets
28-16 in the final round on Saturday at Narromine.
Tristan Everett, with two tries, led the scoring for Cobar at Cale Oval, Narromine, with Jaxon Burke, Tadhg McMullen, Thomas Plater and Loma Atuau also crossing for a try each for the Roosters.
McMullen added another four points to their tally with his two successful conversions.
The Roosters have had a brilliant 2026 season under new coach Slade Neale and new captain Nathan McAndrew.
They dominated from the outset and have handed out a number of drubbings on their way to the finals including: a 64-18 win over Dunedoo, 68-14 against Coonamble, 60-0 over Narromine, 62-0 against Gulgong, and they also beat Gilgandra 54-4 and 60-0 in their two encounters.
Cobar had only one loss for the season which saw them finish at the top of the table with a total of 40 points, ahead of Coonabarabran 36, Coolah 35, Dunedoo 34, Narromine 31, Gulgong 24, Gilgandra 24, Coonamble 22 and Warren 17.
The only black mark on the Roosters’ record in 2026 was their 18-10, loss to the Coolah Roos in Round 10 at Coolah (which came after the Roosters previously beat the Roos
34-12 at home in Round 2).
Apart from the Roos, Cobar’s other main rival this season has been the Coonabarabran Unicorns.
While the Roosters finished as winners on both of their encounters with Coonabarabran, they were however close matches with the Roosters winning 20-16 in Round 3 at Coonabarabran, and Cobar’s Round 13 win at home a fortnight ago was sealed following a try in the 79th minute.
As minor premiers, Cobar has this week off while their two main rivals, Coonabarabran and Coolah, will meet in the qualifying final at Coonabarabran this Saturday.
Dunedoo and Narromine will play off in the elimination final on Sunday.
The winner from the Coonabarabran/Coolah game will travel to Cobar next week to play the Roosters in the major semi final and the winner of this match will go straight into the grand final.
