The Lilliane Brady Village (LBV) took some time last Thursday, on Aged Care Employee Day, to recognise the wonderful work its staff does.
Aged care, retirement living and seniors housing providers, along with residents, clients, families and loved ones around the country last Thursday showed their appreciation with morning and afternoon teas, celebrations and heartfelt messages to acknowledge the dedicated workers who care for our loved ones.
Now in its seventh year, Aged Care Employee Day is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the dedicated people who work tirelessly to ensure the dignity, comfort and wellbeing of older Australians.
Local Denise Kosef has high praise for the LBV staff who looked after her mother Edna for four years.
“They were absolutely fabulous with Edna’s care,” Denise said.
“They greeted her with a smile or a giggle and a ‘love you Edna’.
“They always treated her with respect even if mum sometimes gave them a hard time.
“Visitors were made to feel very welcome.
“It was like being at home or going to visit a friend’s place,” Denise said.
Shirely Harbison is a regular visitor to the village to see family members and agrees the residents are well looked after.
“They seem contented,” Shirley added.
She also praised the staff’s compassion and tolerance.
Jenniffer Barton said her mum, Jill, “loves the staff”.
“They are so lovely always giving her little treats,” Jenniffer said.
Allan Gardoll also cannot speak highly enough of the care his wife Mareeanne has received over the past three and a half years she’s been a resident of the village.
“I’m a regular visitor, and as Mareeanne’s needs have increased, it’s become a bit like a second home. I cannot fault it one bit!” he said.
Ageing Australia CEO Tom Symondson said Aged Care Employee Day has become an important date in our calendar and reminds us of the caring and professional work of our aged care superstars.
“Their care is personal, selfless and often unsung, and makes a meaningful difference in the lives of older people every single day,” Mr Symondson said.
“Our staff have proven to be care superheroes,” Mr Symondson said.
“We encourage the public to give them the recognition they are so deserving of.”
