Cobar Police are investigating a number of suspicious fires that have occurred over the past week in the vicinity of the Old Res and north of Cobar on the Kidman Way.
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW personnel have attended five separate fires in five days.
The RFS Louth Road and Cobar Headquarters brigades were called to a grass fire on a private property off the Kidman Way north of Cobar at around 4pm on Thursday which took just over three hours to contain.
Cobar Headquarters and Tindarey brigades and Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded to a fire at the back of the Old Res at 3.20pm on Friday afternoon which kept firefighters busy until 9.30pm.
Firefighters were again kept busy on Saturday afternoon with another report of a fire north of Cobar close to the Kidman Way highway at around 3pm. The brigades were also back out at the Old Res to fight another grass fire at around 2.30pm on Monday.
Police advise that deliberately lighting a fire carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison but can be higher if the fire results in property damage or injury/death.
