Police and emergency services kept busy over weekend

An unoccupied house on the Barrier Highway east of Cobar, was completely destroyed in a fire on Saturday afternoon. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Cobar Police and emergency services were kept busy over the weekend respond-ing to two serious incidents.
A 20 year old Cobar man was arrested and charged with two offences by police at 11.30am on Saturday.
It’s alleged the man previously attempted to break into the Great Western Hotel at 3.20am at which time he had an altercation with some witnesses in the vicinity.
It’s believed the man then returned to the hotel at approximately 6am where he threw two Molotov cocktails (fire bombs) into the accommodation rooms at the back of the hotel.
Witnesses to the incident put out the fires and police were called to conduct an investiga-tion.
The man was later located by police and taken into custody.
He was charged with attempted break and enter and malicious damage by fire and was bail refused by police.
In a separate incident on Saturday, emergen-cy services were called to a house fire on the Barrier Highway east of Cobar at approxi-mately 4.30pm.
The house, which was unoccupied and used for storage only, was totally destroyed in the blaze.
Police, NSW Ambulance, Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW personnel attended the fire.
