Plenty of action for Touch double header

Jaxon Burke was a standout for his Blue team up against Green scoring two tries in their 6-2 win in the seniors grade of Junior Touch Football competition on Thursday night at Ward Oval

There was plenty of action in the new Junior Touch Football competition which kicked off on Thursday afternoon at Ward Oval.
A total of total of 63 tries were scored in the double header opening round with 42 of those scored by the Juniors.
Of the four Juniors games contested, the closest match of the night resulted in a narrow 6-5 win by Red over Orange.
While the Orange side actually ran in five tries to Red’s four, two of Red’s tries were recorded by Piper Allen and, with female tries worth double points, that helped the Red team to the win.
Rowdy Barton recorded Red’s other two tries to help seal their win.
Orange’s try scorers were Talas Burke, Tommy George (2) and Cohan Nicholson (2).
The Red team was also involved in another close match in their other double header game up against Blue.
This time however they were narrowly beat-en with Blue finishing as 9-7 winners.
Billy George led the try scoring for Blue with four tries, Ella Oborn added four points with her two tries and Aiden Hyland also touched down for a try for Blue.
Rowdy Barton (5) and Piper Allen (one try worth two points) once again accounted for all of Red’s points.
Blue finished the night with two wins after they also beat Yellow 4-1.
George McDonald ran in all four of Blue’s tries with Jaxon Waugh touching down for Yellow’s only try.
Yellow finished out in front of their game with Orange winning 7-3.
Lila Armstrong contributed four points to Yellow’s tally with her two tries, Eli Martin also crossed twice and Jaxon Waugh contrib-uted a point to their winning tally.
In response, Tommy George and Lacey Watt crossed for consolation tries for Orange.
In the Seniors games, the Blue team domi-nated with two big wins, 6-2 over Green and 4-1 over Red.
The Senior Yellow team also had two out of two wins for the night.
Both matches were close with Yellow tak-ing their game with Red 3-1 and 3-1 was also the margin in their victory over Green.
Try scorers for the night were: Blue—Sosie Barton, Jaxon Burke (2), Zaiden Saunders (2), Ryan Urquhart (2) and Oisin McMullen (2); Yellow—Jay Lamond, Kai Taylor (3) and Elleise Woodbridge; Green—Damon Bruce, Kai McCosker and Ethan McLeod; and Red—Nate Martin and Jayden Paul.
