Plans for Cobar Yabbies 50 years reunion are going well

Plans for the 50 years reunion of the Cobar
Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club
in October are progressing very well.
Club secretary Bob Clark, who is a Life
Member of the club and one of the founding
members of the Yabbies, said they have had a
lot of interest from ex-members.
“Yabbies from all over Australia have indicated
they will be attending.
“Almost 600 swimmers have been associated
with the Yabbies over the past 50 years and so
far around 150 have been found and invited,”
Bob said.
Among those attending will be former club
presidents, secretaries and treasurers along
with a number of the club’s Life Members.
Making the Yabbies Life Members list over
the past 50 years were: Bob Clark who was the
first to receive the honour in 1977; 1987—Phil
Knuckey, Tom McIver and Harley Toomey;
1990—Roger Boyle and Peter Herrmann;
1994—Ian Settree; 2009—Bill Fugar; 2017—
Murray Harland; and 2018—Scott Toomey.
Past presidents of the club include: Roger
Boyle, Gordon Hogarth, John Stevenson,
Neil Lethlean, Peter Herrmann, Darcy Obray,
Ian Settree, Rob Wright and Bill Fugar andJohn Carswell, who is the current president.
Those who have served as club secretary
include: Reg Chandler, Phil Knuckey, Greg
Rowlands, Frank Garment, Bob Clark, Andrew
Crackenthorp, Merv Prendergast, Stuart Small
and Russell Harland.
Chandler, Knuckey, Rowlands and Garment
also served as Yabbies treasurers before Harley
Toomey took over the position 43 years ago.
Harley has been their treasurer ever since.
