The Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, is visiting Cobar today and tomorrow.
A retired judge, Her Excellency has served as NSW Governor since May 2019.
Representing King Charles III as the state’s non-partisan head of state, the Governor is appointed on the advice of the NSW Premier for an unfixed term. The role encompasses constitutional, ceremonial and community duties.
As part of her community duties, Her Excellency first visited Cobar in October 2019, just five months after taking up the role.
During that visit, she and her husband, Mr Dennis Wilson, met with then Mayor Lilliane Brady and members of the Cobar Business Association, cheered on Toyota Tour de OROC cyclists passing through town, toured Cobar’s new health service and dined with the mayor and council staff.
The Governor also met with members of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA), the Murdi Paaki Assembly and local rural women to discuss the drought and career opportunities for young girls.
In an interview with The Cobar Weekly during that visit, Her Excellency said essentially “the guts” of her job was getting out and meeting people in the community.
On this visit, the Governor will meet with Cobar Shire Council representatives to learn about local programs and the town’s aspirations, tour the Harmony CSA Mine and attend the Cobar District Concert Band Community Concert.
She will also visit the Cobar Sound Chapel and meet students and staff at Cobar High School, where she will tour classrooms and watch a Taiko drum performance.
“I am looking forward to travelling out west to catch up with locals, learn about progress on important initiatives connecting and empowering communities, and experience the culture, pride, and natural beauty that makes this incredible part of our state so special,” the Governor said.
Her Excellency will also visit Bourke and Brewarrina as part of her western NSW tour.
