New Fast5 netball comp now underway

After a false start to the new season, the Fast5 netball competition got underway at Ward Oval last Tuesday night.

Rain and thunderstorms caused the cancellation of Round 1 on February 21 and so Round 2 last week was played as a double header to catch up.

The newly formed team, Mixed & Matched, finished the night with two wins from their two games and look like they’ll be the team to beat this season.

Mixed & Matched accounted for Watch & Learn, 29-20, in their first match and then beat KML, 39-24, in their second game last week.

The new side used the same tactics in both games, leaving their Power Play quarter until the final quarter, which helped to secure their wins.

In their first game with Watch & Learn, they had trailed 13-19 going into the final quarter, but they stormed home with their Power Play advantage (outpointing Watch & Learn 16 points to one), to finish with a comprehensive nine points win.

It was the same story in their second game with KML having the upper hand, 20-15, going into the final quarter.

Mixed and Matched’s shooter Lauren Urquhart was on fire scoring three four pointers to help them to their 39-24 victory.

In the other two games, KML finished as
35-29 winners over Fast Fobs (despite a poor performance in their Power Play quarter) and Fast Fobs narrowly beat Watch & Learn,
25-22.

Fast Fobs and Watch & Learn were evenly matched throughout the game and it was only the 12 points (Fast Fobs) to six (Watch & Learn) difference in their Power Play quarters that determined the end result.

The Favourite Fivers (best players as determined by their opposition) were: Stevie Toomey (Watch & Learn), Ryan Urquhart (Mixed & Matched), Lauren Urquhart (Mixed & Matched), Jayden Harvey (KML), Riley Bellotti (Fast Fobs), Sosie Barton (KML), Thomas Plater (Watch & Learn) and Jayden Paul (Fast Fobs).
