Men’s health in the spotlight

The Copper City Men’s Shed held a morning tea on Tuesday in celebration of Men’s Health Week. Nurses from Cobar Community Health were on hand to check blood sugar levels, blood pressure and blood oxygen in the men. The nurses also gave a talk about the risks of diabetes in men. Lydon McIntyre from Flourish Australia was also available with mental health information. Men’s Shed coordinator Gordon Hill said part of the Men’s Shed’s focus is to get men talking about their health, both physical and mental. Men’s Health Week is held from June 12-19 each year and the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) uses their male health initiative to encourage men to check on their own health and wellbeing.
