Memorial gains momentum

The proposed Miner’s Memorial project at Cobar Heritage Park is gaining momentum with a funding boost last week from Peak Gold Mines. The mine’s superintendent of environment and social responsibility Chris Higgins presented a donation of $15,000 to the project, with project driver Barry Knight and Cobar Shire Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd and manager of planning and environmental services Stephen Poulter on hand to accept the donation. Mr Poulter said the group of university students who have been involved in the design of the project have been working on it in recent weeks to gain a better understanding of the history behind the project and will be visiting in coming weeks to finalise the design.
