Marsden holds on to Race Club reins

The Cobar Miner’s Race Club held their annual general meeting on Sunday morning with the line-up relatively unchanged. At font are the executive: Vince Sikora (vice president), Jarrod Marsden (president), Tony Polack (secretary) and Kym Miller (treasurer).

The line-up for Cobar Miner’s Race Club executive committee remains relatively unchanged following the club’s annual general meeting on Sunday.

Jarrod Marsden was re-elected unopposed as president with Vince Sikora returned as vice president. Kym Miller was returned as treasurer while Tony Polack has stepped up into the secretary’s role for the year ahead.

Eight other members were elected to the general committee.

Much of the meeting discussion was centred around next year’s May race meeting which is expected to be an integral part of Cobar’s 150 years celebrations.

Marsden said he is confident the club will be awarded additional prize money to the tune of $75,000 (which is double last year’s prize money) from Racing NSW for their next event.

It’s Marsden’s goal to grow the Cobar May race meeting from a local event into a regional event.

“I’m confident we’ll get the extra prize money which will make for an excellent draw card,” he said.

Marsden said the club has to date secured $41,000 sponsorship for the May 2020 meeting.

The committee discussed catering options, the inclusion of more children’s entertainment at the races and the work that needed to be carried out prior to the event.
