Cobar Youth and Community Centre assistant Lucy Kilpatrick has been recognised as one of NSW’s rising stars in local government.
Lucy was among 19 women honoured at the annual Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government, held at Parliament House in Sydney last week.
She received the Rising Star Award for her contribution to local government and the Cobar community.
Lucy began her career as a 16-year-old junior with Council two years ago while completing her secondary education.
Her supervisor, Youth and Community Centre Manager Brytt Moore, said Lucy had quickly demonstrated initiative, creativity, leadership and a passion for improving outcomes for young people.
“I couldn’t be prouder of Lucy and this recognition is so incredibly well deserved.
“Her dedication, initiative and ability to keep everything running smoothly never cease to amaze me — and anyone who can manage to keep me organised on a day-to-day basis deserves an award for that alone!” Brytt said.
Lucy said she was honoured and a little overwhelmed to receive the award.
“Travelling to Sydney and attending the awards at Parliament House was a truly special experience,” Lucy told The Cobar Weekly.
“This recognition reflects the support of so many people around me, and I hope it encourages young women to pursue a career in local government.”
Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig and Minister for Women Jodie Harrison co-hosted the awards.
Minister Hoenig said good councils depended on good people, with this year’s recipients making a real difference in people’s lives.
Minister Harrison said the awards celebrated leaders, innovators and changemakers helping shape a stronger future for councils and communities.
