Competing in their first event of 2016, BMX racers Georgie and Chad Buckman travelled to Castle Hill in Sydney to contest round 2 of the NSW Series on the weekend.

Castle Hill is one of the fastest tracks on the NSW BMX circuit and following Saturday’s practice session it had the Cobar kids a little worried after five months off the bikes.

Georgie made it through to the 13 years girls final after battling through her motos (heats).

After two motos she was in 9th position with the top eight advancing through to the final.

In her 3rd moto she finished 4th to scrape through in the final transfer position.

Before the weekend the weather forecast was for 90 per cent chance of rain.

It had threatened rain all day and the heavens finally opened between the motos and finals.

Leading into the final, Georgie’s plan was to take it cautiously around the corners and see what happened.

Starting from Gate 8, Georgie moved into 7th place down the first straight then moved up into 5th position after the first corner where two riders had crashed.

Georgie held onto 5th place through to the finish.

Chad had a much tougher day in the 12 years boys division.

After finishing 4th and 5th in his first two motos, Chad was in 15th position overall with the top 16 to advance to the semi-finals.

Unfortunately, in his 3rd moto Chad crashed hard on first corner while battling for position and was eliminated.—contributed
