Local firefighters called out to two fires over the weekend

Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters have had a busy weekend with two call outs to attend fires.

Police, the Rural Fire Service (RFS), State Emergency Services (SES) and Fire & Rescue NSW attended a truck fire around 7pm on Saturday approximately 20km south of Cobar on the Kidman Way.

A truck and horse float had caught on fire.

The truck was reported to be having engine issues and when emergency services arrived there were flames coming from the exhaust and underneath the vehicle.

Grass in the immediate vicinity had also caught on fire.

Police personnel were first on scene and assisted with the removal of horses and dogs from float.

Firefighters extinguished the fires and checked the area for hotspots.

The truck, which was blocking one lane of the highway, was moved off the road under supervision and the highway was later reopened.

Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters were called to another fire on Sunday afternoon.

They received a call from a resident in  Brough Street just after 3pm reporting a fire in the back yard had gotten out of control.

A small shed at the back of the property had caught alight when the resident was burning a tree stump in the back yard.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and rendered the site safe…full story in this week’s edition out now!
