Large Cobar contingent lines up with Cougars this season

The Western Women’s Rugby League season kicked off on Saturday with the Castlereagh Cougars facing off against the Panorama Platypi in Bathurst.

This season, 21 girls from Cobar are representing the Cougars in teams ranging from U12s to Opens.

All of the Cougars teams delivered strong performances with the Under 14s side, which includes Cobar players Rhylee Jeffery, Skyla Fairfull and Ella Oborn (who scored a try), recording a 32-8 win.

Rhylee and Ella shared in the team’s Best & Fairest points.

The Under 12s were defeated 40-12 with Cobar’s Isabelle Gillette scoring a try which was converted by another Cobar player, Bria-June Brookman.

The Under 16s, which includes Cobar’s Rori Urquhart, Maddison Jeffery and Sophie Cain, were defeated 46-0.

The Cougars 18s, who are short on numbers, were also defeated 68-4. Cobar’s Bridgette Negfeldt earned three Best & Fairest points and Molly Carter collected two points and was also named Players’ Player.

The Opens team went down to the Platypi
56-4 with Cobar’s Kayla Hasson sharing in
the team’s B&F points.

This Saturday, the Castlereagh Cougars will host their first home game in Cobar at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.
