Local horse rider Kaila Wharton has had a busy few months competing with her horses and things don’t look like changing for her after she was recently selected in the NSW Eventing Team.
Wharton competed at the Gulgong Pony Club One Day event in late June with Reflecting King having his first ‘C’ Grade start and finishing 4th overall.
At Warialda in early July they competed in the PCA NSW State Showjumping Championships.
On the weekend Wharton competed in Mudgee at the Cudgegong Jump Club One Day Event with ‘Be Just’ in the CNC 1* competition and ‘Reflecting King’ in his first EvA80 start.
With over 220 entries across the six grades there was some tough competition and large classes.
‘Be Just’ performed a good dressage test, had a good show jumping phase and a fantastic double clear cross country round, to see them finish 12th overall.
‘Reflecting King’ unfortunately didn’t have a great start in dressage phase, but improved with double clear show jumping and cross country rounds, they placed 22nd overall.
Another Cobar rider, Danielle Lord, also competed in the EvA80 class at Mudgee on her horse ‘Lachlan River Spur’.
She performed well in all 3 phases to finish in 6th place in the Juniors and 17th overall.
Wharton and ‘Be Just’ are now getting ready to compete at the PCA National Championships to be held in South Australia in late September as part of the NSW Eventing team.
Wharton is currently fundraising and also looking for sponsorship to help fund the trip.—contributed
