Junior soccer’s best players recognised

The Redbacks team finished as the winners of the Mids division in this year’s Cobar
Junior Soccer Club competition.

The Cobar Junior Soccer competition wrapped up on Saturday morning with grand final games and end of season presentations.

In the Mids division, Redbacks finished as the competition winners after beating Maroon Rangers 4-nil in their grand final.

Redbacks’ goal scorers were Edwin Palma (2), Joseph Theakston and Austin Kane.

In the other Mids games, Polar Bears won a 4-3 nail-biter over Bengal Tigers and The Sharks won 9-2 over Black Knights.

The final match of the Seniors competition between Mill Rats and Rock Apes fittingly ended in a 2-all draw.

Jacob Theakston and Fraser Talu booted a goal each for Mill Rats while Parker Cryer  kicked both goals for Rock Apes.

The teams in the Minis division played a series of Round Robin games for fun (with no scores recorded).

End of season presentations followed.

The Golden Boot Awards were presented to the highest goals scorers in each grade with Nestor Linn (who had a tally of 24 goals this season) the Minis winner; Mids was won by Henry Geppert (28); and the Seniors award went to Ben Bray with 25 goals.

Four awards were presented in each team and included: Best Skills—for the player who shows excellent skill and a good attitude; Most Improved—the player who has shown improvement throughout the season; Encouragement—the player who has tried hard, has good attendance and deserves to be recognised for their contribution to the team; and Team Spirit—for the team player who shows excellent teamwork skills.

The Mini’s Best Skills players were: Nixon Shields (Pitch Pirates); Trip Ackerley (Cornish Dragons); Oliver Tranter (Purple Wanderers); Basil Peters (Orange Rovers); Noah Seymour (Raging Rhinos) and Nestor Linn from the Sky Strikers.

The Mids Best Skills awards went to: Henry Geppert (Polar Bears); Tom  Preisig (Black Knights); Mark McBride (Bengal Tigers); Cooper Suridge (The Sharks); Alfie Toomey (Maroon Rangers) and Edwin Palma (Redbacks).

In the Seniors Competition, Stephen Ntamuhanga and Caleb Theakston earned Best Skills Awards for the season.

Most Improved awards went to: Minis—Archer Fugar (Pitch Pirates); Henry Murray (Cornish Dragons); Archie Myer-Ryan (Purple Wanderers); Cooper Colling (Orange Rovers); Zara Shepherd (Raging Rhinos) and Peter McMillan (Sky Strikers).

The Mids division Most Improved players were: Indigo Mundy-Ryan (Polar Bears); Ivy Joss (Black Knights); Delilah McBride (Bengal Tigers); Davey Mackah (The Sharks); Ashlee Compton (Maroon Rangers) and Tom Geppert (Redbacks).

For the Seniors, Mark Hibbert and Harry Franks were the Most Improved.

The Minis’ encouragement Awards went to Mason Hill (Pitch Pirates); Jessie Roulston (Cornish Dragons); Audrey Lowe (Purple Wanderers); Rigby Peters (Orange Rovers); Jim Arnold (Raging Rhinos) and Willow McKenzie (Sky Strikers).

For the Mids, Sophie Beer (Polar Bears); Chris Florance (Black Knights); Rogue Kilpatrick (Bengal Tigers); Queena Jiang (The Sharks); Eli Freeman (Maroon Rangers) and Joe Arnold (Redbacks) earned Encouragement Awards.

The Seniors Encouragement Awards went to Jeremiah McMillan and Jasmine Livingston.

Team Spirit Awards went to: Minis—Pearl Toomey (Pitch Pirates); Henry Thompson (Cornish Dragons); Avah Flack-Hogan (Purple Wanderers); Heidi Betcke (Orange Rovers); Jack Joss (Raging Rhinos) and Zane Ntamuhanga (Sky Strikers).

In the Mids division, Team Spirit Award winners were: Josh McMillan (Polar Bears); Callum Bennett (Black Knights); Max Preisig (Bengal Tigers); Ralph Behsman (The Sharks); Darcy Geppert (Maroon Rangers) and Joseph Theakston (Redbacks).

The Seniors Team Spirit Awards were collected by Parker Cryer and Ben Jebb.
