Cobar Roosters Junior Rugby League fans had plenty to cheer about on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval with their Under 11s, Under 12s and Under 16s teams all recording brilliant wins over visi-tors ,South Dubbo.
The Under 11s game was a try-scoring fest for the Cobar team who were up 24-0 at half time and then went on to finish with a big 52-6 win over the visitors.
Strong, determined running by the Cobar players and some smart team play resulted in eight tries, four of which were scored by Jaxon Waugh.
Waugh continuously weaved and dodged around the South Dubbo defenders to score three times and then when a try opportunity presented itself close to the line, he dived over from a quick play of the ball to add another to his tally of four.
Mason King employed the same dodging, weaving and diving tactics (as well as using some muscle) to fend off defenders to score his three tries.
George McDonald opened the scoring with a try and Temi Adesina, who was strong in both attack and defence, also contributed a try to Cobar’s big tally.
The team’s goal kicking was also on point with Mason King, Talas Burke, Jawayne Dodds, Temi Adesina, Braxton Huggett, Jaxon Waugh, George McDonald and Tommy George all landing conversions. The Players’ Player award was earned by Temi Adesina and the Coaches Award went to Mason King.
The Cobar Under 12s had plenty of posses-sion in their match to convincingly beat South Dubbo 30-4. Tries for Cobar were scored by Lachlan Brookman (2), Eli Martin (2), Rowdy Barton and Billy George with Lachlan Brook-man, Cohan Nicholson and Aiden Hyland responsible for their three conversions.
Darcy Sylvester was named their Players’ Player and the Coaches Award went to Corey Piggott.
The Cobar Under 16s also played a strong game on Saturday to finish with a 32-10 win over the South Dubbo visitors. Tries for Cobar were scored by Kai Taylor, Oisin McMullen (2), Tahj Foley, Jamal Eves and Tim Eves.
Tahj Foley kicked four conversions.
Their Players’ Player was Joe Webster and the Coaches Award went to Tommy Bryan.
The Under 10s game was also a thriller of a match with Cobar just beaten 22-20.
Tommy George ran in three tries for Cobar and Lucas Townsend also touched down for the Roosters. Tommy George and Austin Kane landed a goal each.
Tommy earned the Coaches Award and Aus-tin was named Players’ Player.
The Cobar Under 14s were outmatched by the South Dubbo visitors and went down 52-10. Cobar’s points came from tries to Jaxon Burke and Henry Rogers with Tim Eves add-ing the extra two points with a successful con-version. Henry Rogers earned both the Players’ Player and Coaches Awards.
Kasalia Fakahua earned the Coaches Award in the Under 9s game with South Dubbo.
In Sunday’s Mini League Under 6 games, everyone was an award recipient after they had their first official day of tackle after com-pleting the tackle ready program.
In the Under 8s competition, the awards went to Julius Blackmore, Kade Taylor, Tate Stephens and Ford Ellison.
