Jones’ consistent performance earns him champion’s title

The Cobar Yabbies 2024/2025 award winners included: Murray Harland, Stephen Clark, Tom Jones (who was the overall Club Champion), Paul Swainston and Shane Josephson

A consistent performance and a perfect attendance record by Tom Jones saw him clean up at the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club’s presentations at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club on Friday night.

Jones won the 50m Pointscore Russel Harland Memorial Shield with 80 points (13 points ahead of second place) and the 100m trophy with 81 points (23 points ahead of the runner-up).

He also finished as the Overall Club Champion with 215 points to collect the Curly Solomon Shield ahead of Murray Harland (188 points) and Bill Fugar on 156.

Harland claimed the 30m Cobar Bowling & Golf Club Shield with 63 points, just four points in front of Fugar.

Paul Swainston won the Setts One Night Stand award after recording the lowest combined times for the 30m, 50m and 100m handicapped events in one night. (He swam to within 0.40 seconds in Week 18.)

Dave Mexted was the runner-up on 0.51 seconds.

Jones also won the Brace Relay Novelty event when he teamed up with Stephen Clark. The pair finished 9.31 seconds off their nominated times for five events contested.

Greg Martin won the Tom Knight Memorial Shield as the Most Improved swimmer.

Shane Josephson was awarded the Brush Award for a “Best on Tour Performance” at the Forbes carnival.
