Industrial estate stormwater upgrade progressing

Work is currently underway rebuilding major stormwater culverts crossing Cornish Street as part of Cobar Shire Council’s Industrial Estate Road and Stormwater Upgrade Project. Council’s director of engineering Heinz Kausche reports the works in Cornish Street are anticipated to extend to the end of the month (pending weather). “Further works including onsite service relocations, stormwater and pavement works are also currently ramping up throughout the Stage 1 areas of the Industrial Estate. This includes the length of
Campbell Street and a portion of Old Bourke Road. These works are expected to continue over the coming months until early 2025,” Mr Kausche said. Separate sections of the road will be closed sequentially, for roughly a month at a time to complete the different
stages of works. Project contractor, Shane Martin from Cynend Building & Construction, advises Cornish Street is currently closed as work continues this week on the drain between Gibbes and Dunstan Street (as pictured above). Mr Martin anticipates Cornish Street should be open to traffic by mid next week and then Campbell Street will be closed off for culverts work to progress. Swale drain works are also progressing between Cornish and Campbell streets and down to the Barrier Highway. ▪ Photos contributed
