The pool was a very popular place to be when it opened on November 10, 1962. At the time a season ticket cost £5 (equivalent to about $160 today) and a casual visit was 1s (or $1.80). The reported cost to build was £69,000 with almost a quarter of that fundraised by the community. It held 400,000 gallons of water. Dudley Martin was the pool’s firstmanager and helped to establish the lawns and trees.
