Here for more than 60 years

The Cobar Memorial Pool was officially 61 years old on Friday. The pool was a very popular place to be when it opened on November 10, 1962. At the time a season ticket cost £5 (equivalent to about $160 today) and a casual visit was 1s (or $1.80). The reported cost to build was £69,000 with almost a quarter of that fundraised by the community. It held 400,000 gallons of water. Dudley Martin was the pool’s first
manager and helped to establish the lawns and trees. Brad Wynd took over as
manager in 1963 before Michael Francisco took on the manager’s job in 1972.
Michael ran it for the next 30 years and estimates 2.5 million passed through the gates in that time.
