The Cobar VIEW Club will celebrate its 35th birthday this week with a number of its founding members still actively involved in the club.
One of those founding members, Kate Winders, was present at the inaugural February 15, 1983 meeting which was held at the Cobar Shire Council chambers.
“VIEW Club is part of a network of 320 clubs throughout Australia,” Mr Winders said.
“Our role in the community is underpinned by our support of The Smith Family, a national charity that helps children in need with their education.
“Through our work with the charity we are helping make life changing differences to local children and their families,” she said.
“Joining VIEW Club is the perfect opportunity to meet regularly with other like-minded women, establish new friendships and help children in need.”
Mr Winders said current president Margaret Potter has been doing a very good job over the past two years in recruiting new members.
“Our membership has increased as Margaret has been actively chasing up new people to town to join.
“We’ve also seen an increase in younger members and we see the next generation coming through.
“We are hoping Margaret will return for another term, she is doing a very good job,” Mrs Winders said.
The group will however be looking for a new publicity officer after Jean Poulter announced that she will be retiring from the position after 14 years of service to VIEW.
“We are always looking for women of all backgrounds and ages to join us and we look forward to welcoming some new faces to our next monthly meeting,” Mrs Winders said.
The Cobar VIEW will hold their annual general meeting on Tuesday at the Empire Hotel.
