Cobar Shire Council has recently released its State of Our Region Report which outlines council’s activities over the past four years.
Commenting on the report, Mayor Jarrod Marsden said the past four years had been “a significant period for Cobar Shire and contained a raft of highs and lows”.
Cr Marsden outlined achievements including the Museum upgrade, walking track and footpath upgrades, and Cobar Youth and Community Centre upgrades and more recently the Early Learning Centre.
“The completion of the new Early Learning Centre is a massive boost for Cobar and removes one of the biggest issues facing our community,” Cr Marsden said.
“The lack of childcare places was a huge burden, and to have that lifted, along with the extra employment created by the larger centre, is a win-win for everyone.”
Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko reported that approximately $90 million of grants were applied for and $60 million were awarded in the period of the previous council term, which has “had a significant impact for our community”.
In addition to projects already mentioned by the mayor, Mr Vlatko said extensive work had been carried out on the shire’s road network, including graveling, sealing and culvert replacements, which has greatly improved accessibility across the Shire.
“We also have enhanced public safety and beautified our towns with footpath upgrades, park beautification efforts, and CCTV installations in parks and along main streets,” Mr Vlatko said.
“Our parks have seen notable improvements, with significant upgrades at Euabalong, Dalton Park and Drummond Park.
“The major upgrade underway at Ward Oval will soon offer first-rate facilities for sports and events, including new horse stables.
“Additionally, thanks to a State Government grant, our water reticulation system has been significantly upgraded, resulting in better water quality for Cobar residents.
“As we look to the next four years, we will continue building on this foundation to ensure Cobar Shire remains responsive to its community’s needs and aspirations,” Mr Vlatko said.
