There was an excellent turnout of 15 athletes competing at the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s (CATS) November triathlon on Sunday morning at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.
They competed in three events, the Try A Tri Course (which comprised of a 200m swim, a 5km ride and a 2km run); the Short Course (300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run) and the Long Course (500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run).
Despite facing a cool breeze that greeted swimmers getting out of the pool and later turned into a strong headwind for the bike riders, there were however some personal best times recorded in all three of the tri phases, swim, ride and run.
Zach Finn finished as the Handicapped winner after improving on his Short Course time by more than three minutes.
Finn recorded personal best times (PBs) in his swim leg (7min 31sec) and also on the bike leg (24.31).
Second and third places in the Handicapped event went to Long Course competitors Tom Summerhayes and Axel Fairfull respectively.
Axel improved his bike leg time (to a new PB of 42.25) and also his run time (16.41).
Other PBs recorded on Sunday included the bike time for Laura Andrew (to a new PB of 25.20 in the Short Course) and Amanda Hyland (Team Knee High Tri) improved her run time to 10.58.
Among the new competitors who took part this month was nine year old Harlow Chaplain (who completed the ride and run legs as part of team ‘Happy Chappies’ with Georgia Baker completing the swim leg.
Neve Carter took part in the Short Course for the first time.
The club holds triathlon events each month during pool season with the CATS’ next event set down for December 18.
