Drought funding on the agenda

The need for more drought funding was at the top of the agenda for yesterday’s Western Division of Councils of NSW Mid-Year Conference in Cobar.

President of Local Government NSW (LGNSW), Cr Linda Scott addressed the meeting and said LGNSW had lobbied hard for increased drought assistance.

“We’re pleased to see that the message got through,” Cr Scott said.

“The Budget committed an additional $355million over and above the commitment of $400million that was made during the State Election campaign.”

Cr Scott said this includes extending the water security and on-farm assistance programs; $8.275million for drought-related mental health initiatives and $170million has been committed to the Drought Stimulus Package for shovel-ready projects.
