Dozen Mermaids take a final dip

There was a good roll up of 12 swimmers for the Cobar Mermaids’ final swim of the year on Sunday morning at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.

Two competitors from last season were welcomed back for their first swims of this season and all enjoyed the barbecue breakfast that followed.

Kym Sutton finished the year with a double win taking out the 30 metres and 50 metres handicapped freestyle events.

Sutton clocked a brilliant time of 0.03 seconds off her nominated time to win the 30m swim.

Georgia Baker was in second place on 1.15 and Tanya Gilbert finished third on 1.43.

Sutton won the 50m with a time of 0.13 seconds off her nominated time with Makaila Gordon second on 0.41 and Gilbert was again third on 0.63.

Gilbert had a great swim in the 100m to finish with the best time of 0.19 seconds off her nominated time.

Bianka Jacobson was second on 0.84 and Baker, on 1.25, was back in third place.

As it was the final swim of the year, the Mermaids decided to have a bit of fun with a slide race.

Corinne McLeod won the slide time trial recording the quickest time down the slide with 9.94 seconds.

Makaila Gordon was next best with 10 seconds and Zoë Harland was just behind in third place on 10.35.
