The War memorial project in Drummond Park has received another injection of funds, this time from the Great Western Hotel.

Hotel staff member Zebrina Wells presented sub branch president Ben Hewlett with a donation of $1,000 last week with the money raised from meat raffles and beer pong games held at the hotel over the past few weeks.

Mr Hewlett said he was very pleased to accept the donation and has been overwhelmed by the response from the community in support of the project.

“Cobar at large has been enormously generous and continue to give.

“It is a heart warming experience to be on the receiving end of so much attention,” Mr Hewlett told The Cobar Weekly.

During 2015 the RSL Sub Branch held a number of fundraising functions including the car and bike Light Horse Charge to Hermidale, and the ANZAC Ball and were also part recipients of last year’s Dancing Under the Stars event.

Following a beard shaving night which raised $4,400, the committee had raised a total of $25,000 for the year.

The committee is continuing to fundraise again this year and plans to hold another Light Horse Charge and a ball as they aim to extend the memorial to not only include the names of locals who served in WW1 but also those who served in WW2 and other conflicts.
