The Castlereagh Cougars Under 16s team were outplayed by Woodbridge in the Western Women’s Rugby League grand final on Sunday in Orange. After sailing through the 2020 season undefeated, the Cougars handed in their worst performance on their biggest stage to date.
They were well and truly beaten 50-4 by an impressive Woodbridge outfit.
The fact that the Cougars didn’t touch the ball until the eighth minute of the game, at which point the Woodies had already raced away to a 10-0 lead, was indicative of the way the game panned out.
Indeed the Castlereagh team was called on to defend for the entire game against an opposition that enjoyed 70 per cent of possession and was full of running.
With the Cougars falling off tackles it was pretty much all one-way traffic which lead to the comprehensive win by the Woodbridge Cup side.
While they were outclassed on the day, the Castlereagh team tried hard for the entire match and they can hold their heads high after what has been a stellar year for them.
