The Cobar Little Athletics Club was represented by six athletes at the Little Athletics NSW Region 3 Championships at Barden Park in Dubbo over the weekend.

The six had qualified for the Regional carnival after their impressive performances at the Western Plains Zone carnival in Dubbo last November.

The Cobar contingent last week came up against athletes from across a broad region that included larger centres like Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo, Katoomba, Forbes and Lithgow.

Only the first two placegetters in each event are able to qualify for State level.

The Cobar team competed in a total of 23 events over two days in very hot conditions with some events having to be rescheduled due to the heat.

In his Under 8’s division, Thomas Knight finished with a third place in this Discus event and ran 12th in his 70m run.

Sarah Morley, competing in the Under 14s girls’ division, finished in 4th place in her Long Jump and 80m Hurdles events.

Sarah also placed 7th in her 100m run and Triple Jump events and 9th in her 200m run.

In his Under 12s boys division, Zaiden Saunders recorded 5th places in his High Jump and Triple Jump events and 7th in Long Jump.
