Cobar was very well represented at the 41st Dubbo New Year Carnival at Barden Park earlier this month with the Cobar squad’s ages ranging from tots to 65 years.
A new twilight carnival was introduced to this year’s competition format which gave athletes a break from 2pm to 6pm so they were not competing in the heat of day.
All agreed it was a great idea.
There were many medals, new records and lots of personal best performances this year from Cobar athletes.
The youngest competitors in the Cobar team, Julius Blackmore and Joshua Gillette, participated in the Tots 3-5 years 50m Dash and 50m Hurdles.
The most senior member of the team, Geoff Fennamore, competed in the Men’s 65-69 age division and finished with first places in Hammer Throw (16.43m); Discus (15.51m) and Shot Put (6.26m).
Distance runner Lynn Fennamore, competing in the Female 60-64 age group, won six gold medals with wins in her 2000m Steeplechase (11:28.22); 800m (3:38.40); 200m (42.08); 3000m (15:18.89); 1500m (7:17.69); and 400m (1:40.77).
Selina Fennamore finished with two first places in her Women’s 30-34 3000m (14:45.90) and 400m 1:21.32) runs and second in her 800m (3:13.37) and 1500m (6:58.38) events.
Six year old Isabelle Gillette competed in six track and field events with her best result coming in Discus with her throw of 4.20m earning her fourth place.
Malcolm Gillette competed in five events in his Boys 10 Years age group and finished with a first place in Shot Put (4.88m); and third places in Long Jump (2.40m); 60m Hurdles (14.78); 100m Dash (18.18) and Discus (12.91m) events.
Andrew Rorke finished with good results competing in the Men’s 18-20 division.
He placed first in Hammer Throw (25.59m), Shot Put (9.69m), Discus (20.15m), and Javelin (20.95m) events; was second in his 200m (25.77) and 100m (12.65) sprints; and placed 6th in the Men’s 15-50 years 110m Dash Invitational event with a time of 12.21.
Atlanta Rorke collected three gold medals and two silver from her six events in the Women’s 20-29 years age division.
Atlanta won the Hammer Throw (15.25m), Discus (16.93m) and Javelin (10.55m) and was runner-up in her Shot Put (7.16m), 200m (43.40) and 100m (17.52) Dash events.
James Turner competed in seven events in his 11 Years Boys age with his best results coming in the 1100m Walk (second place with a time of 10:52.57) and 4th in the 400m Dash (1:38.71).
Lucy Turner competed well in her eight events in the 7 Years Girls division with three second places in Discus (11.58m), 100m Dash (17.99) and 50m Dash (9.01) as well as finishing third in her 200m (39.06) and 70m (12.34) sprints.
Nine year old Sam Turner competed in three events finishing third in his Shot Put (5.17m) and 4th in Discus (14.15m).
