After serving as The Cobar Weekly newspaper’s president for 20 years, David Snelson will now be taking a back seat on its voluntary advisory committee.
Since its inception in 1986, Cobar’s not-for-profit, community newspaper has been overseen by a committee.
David’s father, Peter Snelson, was one of the paper’s founding members, who along with another founding member, Rick Mathews, set up Cobar Print N Paper, to print The Cobar Weekly.
The Weekly was printed for almost 18 years at the Snelson’s family property before the printing business closed in 2004.
David joined The Weekly committee in 2004, was elected president and has served continuously in the role since.
His long service was recognised with Life Membership in 2013.
At last week’s annual general meeting, Tahnee Andrew was elected as the group’s new president.
Tahnee is a former employee of the paper.
She worked as a journalist and later advertising manager at The Weekly for 14 years prior to making a career change in 2020.
Like a number of former employees of The Cobar Weekly, Tahnee has maintained her connection to the paper and continued to support it in a voluntary capacity.
Tahnee has been a member of the advisory committee since 2021.
David will continue to serve on the committee and offers his support to Tahnee as vice president.
Regan Kings has stepped into the secretary’s role and Briana Coffey was returned to the treasurer’s role.
Therese Hill, Karen Lennon, Stephen Dutton and Lee Davey were re-elected to the general committee along with a new committee member, Brytt Moore.
“The Cobar Weekly is a well-loved local icon, and I am proud to be able to continue to support the staff in their efforts to continually deliver a high quality, 100 per cent Cobar-focused publication each week,” Tahnee said.
“The staff go above and beyond to ensure a wide range of local events and community groups receive coverage of their activities, helping to inform, educate and entertain Cobar residents.”
