Cobar VIEW Club’s July meeting at the Empire last Tuesday saw the ladies attending embrace the challenge of geographical, historical and general knowledge quiz of France and the Olympic Games traditions.
It was ‘une merveilleuse journée’ [a wonderful day] as members came dressed a la mode, incorporating the national French colours of blue, white and red in their outfits with scarves, coats, berets and jewellery.
Table decorations and activities also centered around the French tri colours together with some Aussie green and gold, reflecting the upcoming competitions of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris.
Unfortunately, the guest speaker was unable to attend, but in true Olympic spirit, everyone drew on their inner knowledge and tackled the quiz, shared interesting facts and humorous anecdotes and photographs from French holidays.
Topped off with a very French menu of Beef Bourguignon, Chicken Chasseur and dessert crepes, the gathering was proclaimed ‘magnifique’!
Sue Cox received celebratory champagne for her gold medal outfit, Di Whiteman scored the lucky door prize, Jean Poulter climbed onto the podium to collect the raffle prize, while Enid English proudly wore the tri color rosette for having the top score in the quiz.—contributed
