The Cobar & Districts Rugby Union Club is planning for the 2026 Western Plains Rugby season with high hopes of entering men’s and women’s teams in the competition next year.
There was a good turn out for the club’s annual general meeting on Sunday and all committee positions were filled.
Peter Payne was returned as the club’s president with vice presidents, Kel Ellicott and Kevin ‘Rusty’ Mitchell and secretary Samantha Ward, also retaining their positions.
The club has welcomed Jasmine Beddows as their new treasurer and Georgia Palazzi as assistant secretary and publicity officer.
Other roles that were filled were: Registrar—Cairo Haronga; Groundskeeper—Dale McLeod; Canteen manager—Stephanie Turley; Return & Earn coordinator—Peter Payne and Fitness trainer—Toea Wisil.
Ten others were also elected to the general committee.
With 15 names put forward for the Camels men’s team, the club is confident of being able to nominate a team to re-enter the Western Plains Rugby Union competition for the 2026 season.
The Camels struggled to field a team in season 2024 and sat out the 2025 season.
The players are keen to start pre, pre-season training with the ladies Bactrians team, who have their final hit out at a 10s tournament in Orange in a fortnight.
Among matters discussed at the meeting were plans for a number of preseason matches and gala days.
