The 2023 Cliffhanger biennial off road racing event got underway on Sunday at Mt Gap station north west of Cobar.

Described as “the big daddy of Australian 4×4 racing” the event has been held in the Cobar area since 2010 and features tough winch courses, long navigation stages and fast creek runs.

Run over three classes, Winch truck (also known as the Challenge class which has been running since 2004), an Ultra 4 Buggy class and the Super Tourer class, which is ideal for newcomers, has something for all skill levels.

Entrants will cover 1,000km of outback trails over the week of competition which wraps up on Friday with presentations to follow on Saturday night.

See next week’s edition for results, including how the local 50seven Racing team fare.

(They were ranked 18th as of Monday afternoon.)
