The Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s (CATS) first event of the 2022/2023 season had a great turnout with 25 registering to compete as individuals and teams in Sunday’s triathlon.

Three individuals and one team competed in the Long Course event (500m swim/ 20km ride/ 4km run) with Tom Summerhayes blitzing his previous best time to finish the course in just over one hour.

His time of 1hr 3 min was just 10 seconds outside the course record of 1.02.50 set by Finlay Robinson in January 2022.

Axel Fairfull finished in second place with 1.08.19.

Isaac Theakston was first home in the Short Course event (300m swim/ 10km ride/ 2km run) with a time of 34min 32sec, which was a personal best for him.

Isaac was also close to setting a course record, finishing just one minute and five seconds off the best male Short Course time of 33.27, which was also set by Robinson in December 2021.

Zac Broughton was second in the Short Course on 40 minutes and Ethan McLeod, competing for the first time as an Individual, was just behind in third place on 41.59.

Charlie’s Angels were the fastest finishing trio over the Short Course with Skyla Fairfull (swim), Charlie Nicholson (ride) and Caleb Theakston (run) finishing in 45.55 just ahead of Team Water Safety (Henry Knight and Jaxon Burke) with 46.51.

Tommy Bryan improved on both his swim and ride times from last season to finish with a personal best (PB) overall time; Zach Finn had a PB in his swim leg; Laura Andrew and Harry Cousins both improved on their ride times from last season; and Isabelle Gillette improved in all three legs to finish with a new PB. Two first time competitors, Grace Burge and Ashley Cousins, had their first initiations into the sport on Sunday with both setting good benchmark times.
