The Bushies were victors over Peak in Friday night’s Twenty/20 cricket match at Ward Oval finishing with a score of 7/142 in reply to Peak’s total of 10/48.
Peak won the toss and elected to bat and got off to slow start when they lost their first wicket in the first over. Vikram Purohit (16) was the only batsman to reach double figures for Peak and then after he was out in the third over, Peak struggled to make runs. Up against the tight bowling from the Bushies all of the Peak batters found runs were hard to come by as wickets fell in quick succession. The Peak team was however determined to stick it out for their 20 overs, however they were all finally out in the 18th over for a meagre total of 48.
Bushies’ best bowlers were Craig Tanke (3/6) Bryce Rixon (1/5) and Ben Tranter (1/5).
Bushies’ openers Alec Fraser (14) and Loch Sullivan (26) started well and looked set to finish the game themselves before Fraser was out in the third over. At that stage Bushies only needed eight runs to win.
With the next two wickets falling for just two runs, Bushies foundered a bit and still needed seven runs to win.
They managed to achieve that in the 4th over leaving their tail enders some breathing space to unleash on the Peak bowling attack. Glenn Spinks didn’t let the opportunity slide and batted for 13 overs to finish not out on 43, which earned him the Man of the Match honours.
Best bowlers for Peak were Nick Mitchell (2/10), Tony Brown (2/11) and D Wall (2/16).—contributed
