Councillors Lilliane Brady and Peter Abbott were returned as mayor and deputy mayor at last week’s Cobar Shire Council elections.

The first meeting of the new councillors since the September 10 Local Government elections took place in front of a packed gallery of local residents at the council chambers last Thursday.

Cr Brady out-polled Cr Peter Yench for the job of mayor and Cr Abbott was only opposed by new councillor Janine Lea-Barrett for the position of deputy mayor.

The meeting was a first for new councillors Cr Lea-Barrett, Cr Julie Payne and Cr Chris Lehmann.

The new councillors, along with the nine returned councillors, were elected to various council committees.

Cr Lea-Barrett was elected as chairperson for the Economic Taskforce committee and will also sit on the Western Division of Councils, Murray Darling Association and act as the alternate council representative on the Association of Mine Related Councils and Western Regional Joint Planning Panel.

Cr Payne was named as council’s delegate to Outback Arts and the Youth Council.

Cr Lehmann was elected as council’s representative to the Tourism Advisory and Murray Darling Association committees.
