The women bowlers at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club hosted the inaugural Maz’s Memorial Day tournament on Sunday in memory of one of their own, Marion Williams.

One of the organisers, Sandra Zazoniuk, said Marion had been a very good bowler for over 30 years and, following her passing, they thought it fit to hold an event in her honour.

There were 12 teams nominated and 36 players on Sunday vying to have their names on the trophy donated by the family.

The inaugural winners were Kevin Kershaw, Marlene Wynd and Doug Hudson who finished the day with a score of +50.

The runners-up, with +49, were Daniel Holt, Jim Goonrey and Shine McIver.

The morning winners were Phillip Gilligan, Phillip Butler, Maddie Williams and Randall Hall with a score of +25, while Margaret Good, Vicki Good and Kevin Burrows were the afternoon winners with a score of +26.

It’s hoped Maz’s Memorial Day will now become an annual event.
