There was a big field of 33 competitors for the Cobar Athletics Triathlon Squads (CATS) November triathlon on Sunday.

Not only did the club celebrate the big turn out of competitors, they also celebrated a new club record with Tom Summerhayes setting a  new record time of 1.01.18 for the Long Course (500m swim/20km ride/4km run).

Summerhayes’ time was more than a minute better than the previous record set by Finlay Robinson in January 2022.

Summerhayes and Khan Fugar were the only two who tackled the Long Course with Fugar smashing his previous best time by seven and a half minutes.

The rest of the field took on the Short Course (300m/10km ride/2km run) and six got a taste of the sport with the Try-A-Tri course of a 200m swim, 5km ride and 2km run.

There were eight brand new ‘never taken part’ competitors and of these, Lisa Dormer  Huw Rabone and Ged Best each completed the event individually.

The first Short Course team over the line was Team Snoop Zoo of Greg McKervey (who did the swim and ride legs) and Zoë Egan, who completed the run, in a time of 40 minutes and 22 seconds.

Chris Powell was the first individual male to complete the Short Course coming in with a time of 41.36 while Dormer was the first of the female Short Course competitors in a time of 43.54.

There were six Try-a-Tri competitors with The Tri Stars (Taylah Wyllie and Jake McKervey) completing the course in the best time of 32 minutes and 23 seconds.
