
The Cobar Junior Rugby League Club hosted seven games of junior league at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.
In addition to their four Round 8 games of the Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League competition, two cross over games for Under 10s and Under 12s were played with Outback Rugby League (which included Broken Hill, Menindee and Wilcannia) and Barwon Darling (Bourke and Brewarrina players) and the Roosters Under 8s hosted the Nyngan Tigers.
In the Under 8s game, the Coach’s Award went to Levi Prince and Jason Doherty was named Players’ Player.
The Under 10s played South Dubbo in an uncontested match with Cobar’s Sportsmanship award going to Trig Wicks and the Coach’s Award was earned by Kyson Stewart.
In the Under 10s match against the Outback team, Maddox Best collected the Coach’s Award and Lenny Hill received the Sportsmanship Award.
The Under 11s played Nyngan in an uncontested game with Cobar’s awards going to Billy Williams (Coach’s Award) and Liam Cain (Players’ Player).
In their Under 12s uncontested game against South Dubbo, Corey Cleary was named Cobar’s Players’ Player and Brock Eves collected the Coach’s Award.
The Under 12s also played again in the cross over games. The Roosters Under 16s came out on top 20-12 in their Round 8 Dubbo & District game with South Dubbo.
Lachie Brookman crossed three times for the Roosters and Kai McCosker ran in one. Rowdy Barton kicked two conversions.
The Coach’s Award went to Justin Bruce and Lachie Brookman was named their Players’ Player. The Cobar club received abundant praise from the NSW Rugby League Far West Project team on
the fantastic reception their Outback/Barwon teams received in Cobar on Saturday. The gift of a guernsey each to the players put a big smile on their faces.
