The 2024 Aurelia Peak Gold Mine sponsored Cobar Ladies Open was finally played on Sunday after the event was washed out in August.
Visitor numbers were disappointing with only six ladies making the trip to Cobar. (Nyngan ladies sent apologies as the Open clashed with the Men’s NSW Sand Green championships.)
Those that travelled were from Broken Hill, Albert, Hillston, Wellington and Warren.
Players were split into only two divisions although Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive prizes were up for grabs for all three grades.
Jenny Stephenson finished as the A Grade Scratch champion once again after posting 75 off the stick and she also picked up the Longest Drive prize and Nearest the Pin prize on the 3rd hole for A Grade.
(Stephenson was also the winner of this event last year.)
Michelle Owen, from Albert, was the runner-up with a scratch score of 80.
Geraldine Francisco (69 net) won the 18 hole handicap in A Grade while Fay Hardwick was runner up on 70 net.
Serena Fraser played a great front nine holes and won the Handicap event with 28 net. The runner-up on the front was Fran Samios (33 net). Jannine Wilkin was the back nine winner with 35 net while Robynne Morton had 38 net to finish as the runner-up.
Wen Zhang won the B Grade division with 94 and had the Longest Drive as well as narrowly picking up the Barb and Bill Bartlett Best Net Score for a Local Player by one shot with 68 net.
Brenda Fugar was the Scratch runner-up on 96 with mum, Barb Barklimore, picking up the B Grade handicap with 71 net and a Nearest the Pin win in this grade on the 15th hole.
Marlene Wynd was the runner-up, two shots back on 73 net.
Kay Irvine from Hillston won the B Grade front nine holes with 33 net and the back nine win went to Daphne Cross on 39 net.
The runners-up were Ann Dunn on the front (35 1/2 net) and Karen Manns on the back posting 40 1/2 net.
Daphne Cross won the Nearest the Pin prize on the 8th hole and Pat Polack had the Longest Drive, both for C grade.
A Stableford game was played in conjunction with the Open with Narelle Kriz finishing as the winner on 33 points and runner-up Wan Sipatsa had 31 points.
Ann Dunn was the recipient of the Vi McLaughlin Trophy as the Best Net local player in C Grade, with 73 net.
The Grandmother’s Award went to Geraldine Francisco and Brenda Fugar won the Vets trophy with 69 net.
