In yet another close Twenty20 cricket encounter, Back Door Bandits came away with a hard-fought win over Howie’s Hombres in their match on Friday night at Ward Oval.
Bandits won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a total of 6/134.
Thomas Plater led the run scoring with 49, combining with Edward Paul for a 61-run partnership before Paul was dismissed for 24.
David Watson and Blake Ardley both contributed 18 runs to their total
Bowling honours for Hombres went to Sam Best who claimed two wickets for 11 runs off his three overs and Tom Mckenna finished with 2/6 off two overs. Graham Harbison also finished with handy figures of 1/5.
Howie’s Hombres appeared to have traded-up Egans with Matt Egan proving to be a handy inclusion in the team both in the field and with the bat.
Egan took two crucial catches and finished with a smoking 27 runs off 12 balls after he opened his batting account with a six!
With the top order falling quickly, Nicola Harbison steadied the middle order scoring 25 (not out) with the next top scorer being sundries (22).
The Hombres team lacked the required batting fire power in their lineup to chase down the total, and fell agonisingly short of the target in the final over.
Bowling honours for the Bandits went to Blake Ardley with 3/18 off three overs and Jed Noonan with 2/20, off three overs.
Both teams have now earnt a rest with Concrete Cowboys and the Bushies to meet for this Friday night’s fixture.—contributed
