A good day to be a Roosters supporter

The Cobar Roosters sit alone and undefeated at the top of the ladder at the halfway mark in the 2026 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition.

The Roosters brushed aside the Coonamble Bears at Tom Knight Memorial Oval in their First Grade Round 7 match on Saturday in what was their first defence of the Boronia Cup.

The Roosters held a commanding 28-4 lead at half time, extending that to 50-4 at one point during the second stanza before the Bears scored twice to make it 50-14.

The home side powered up again to register a comfortable 68-14 victory.

Loma Atuau and Jack Brown led the scoring for Cobar in Saturday’s game with two tries each.

Ashley Davies, Reynold Mugugia, Tadhg McMullen, Ryan Urquhart, Slade Neale, Thomas Plater, Jed Noonan and Jackson Cox also crossed for tries, with McMullen landing 10 successful conversions.

It was a good day to be a Roosters fan with the club’s Reserve Grade finishing with a big
66-10 win over the Bears (see Page 16 for a full report) and the Roosterettes also recorded a 36-20 victory in their Ladies League Tag match against Coonamble.

The team’s coach, Brianna Watson, led the scoring for Cobar touching down for three tries and kicking three conversions.

Rhylee Patterson crossed for a double and Taylah Good and Sarah Morley also added a try each to the Roosterettes’ winning tally.

The Roosters Under 18s also finished out in front in their Youth League match against Narromine.

In the match played at Narromine on Saturday, Cobar beat their hosts 22-10 with Aiden Swan (2), Jaxon Burke and Aiden Hyland scoring their tries with Brennan Auckett (2) and Swan responsible for their three conversions.
