Cobar’s top darts player, Tony Brown, was given the honour of flag bearer for his NSW team at the opening of the 45th Australian Darts Championships on Friday.
Brown is currently representing NSW at the week-long national event that runs alongside the World Darts Federation (WDF)-ranked Pacific Masters at the Stirling Adriatic Club in Perth, Western Australia.
On Day 1 of the Pacific Masters competition on Saturday, Brown won eight of his nine games to finish at the top of his group with a three dart average of 70.67.
He beat some well known players and was ranked in the top 32 out of 170 players.
Brown was named in the NSW team at the NSW State Teams Trials in Foster in February this year.
It was the 4th time he has been selected as a member of the state side and Brown said this year is the most “relaxed” he’s been when it comes to qualifying competitions.
Brown has been playing well this year and said following a lot of practice, his confidence in this ability is high.
He’s chuffed with his results from the first day of competition and hopes his run continues for the rest of the week.
The Perth competition serves as the selection event for the Australian team competing at the 2026 WDF Asia-Pacific Cup in Mongolia, and provides a direct qualification pathway to the Amateur Darts Circuit Global Championship in England.
