The Cobar Roosters put last week’s shock loss to the Coolah Roos firmly behind them with a commanding 40-16 victory over the Warren Bulldogs in Round 11 of the Christie and Hood Castlereagh Rugby League competition on Saturday.
With the finals fast approaching, every competition point is becoming increasingly important and the Roosters responded in style, dominating the contest in Warren to remain right in the hunt for the minor premiership.
Tadhg McMullen led the way with a hat-trick of tries and also slotted four conversions in an impressive all-round performance.
Jaxon Burke crossed twice, while Timothy Hillam, Jackson Vallis and Reynold Mugugia also touched down as the Roosters ran in eight tries to secure the convincing win.
The result leaves Cobar locked on 31 competition points at the top of the table with the Coonabarabran Unicorns.
While Narromine and Coolah remain mathematically capable of snatching the minor premiership, both sides sit five competition points behind the leaders and would need to win all three remaining matches while relying on other results. The race for top spot is likely to be decided over the final three rounds, with the Roosters hosting Gilgandra this weekend and Coonabarabran next Saturday before their away clash at Narromine.
The Cobar Ladies League Tag side also produced a sensational performance in Warren on Saturday, running riot in a 62-0 demolition of their hosts. The Roosterettes were on the front foot from the opening whistle and never allowed Warren into the contest.
Taylah Good and Bridgette Negfeldt led the try-scoring with a hat-trick each. Madasan Taylor, Sarah Morley, Rori Urquhart, Brianna Watson and Kayla Hasson-Williams also crossed for tries.
Watson was equally impressive with the boot, landing nine conversions to cap off the dominant display as the Roosterettes continued their strong form.
